Osito: Immigration Resources for International Students

An immigration platform with visa tools, employer data, school directories, and guides in 8 languages

Osito OPT timeline calculator showing work authorization schedule

What it is

Osito is an immigration resource platform for international students and workers in the US. It covers F-1, H-1B, E-3, and J-1 visas with interactive tools, government data, and educational guides in 8 languages.

What I did

I built everything: the frontend in Next.js, a Python FastAPI backend for timeline calculations, automated data pipelines that pull weekly LCA filings and monthly school enrollment data from government sources, and 25 guides covering OPT, CPT, STEM extensions, H-1B cap season, E-3 visas, and more. The site supports English, Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Portuguese, Arabic, and Japanese.

How it works

The OPT/CPT tool walks you through a guided questionnaire about your program dates, degree level, and work history, then generates a visual timeline showing when you can apply, when your authorization starts and ends, STEM extension eligibility, and upcoming H-1B cap seasons. You can export the report as a PDF.

The H-1B and E-3 employer search lets you look up salary data and sponsorship history across 324,000+ certified labor condition applications and 51,000+ employers. The F-1 schools directory covers 3,700+ SEVP-certified schools with enrollment trends you can compare side by side.

Data pipelines run on GitHub Actions. LCA data updates weekly from the Department of Labor. School enrollment data updates monthly from ICE.

Why it matters

Immigration timelines are confusing and mistakes have real consequences. Most students depend on their school's international office, which is often understaffed and hard to reach. Osito gives them a way to understand their own situation, look up employers, and plan ahead without waiting for an appointment.
